Scusate il post multiplo su due liste (e-privacy e freenet-italia)
ma ritengo opportuno segnalare la cosa in tutte e due.

Visto che si parlava del prossimo freenet (0.7 in arrivo per natale)
e della possibilita' di eseguirlo con Kaffe-Classpath-GCJ (ovvero
implementazioni libere alternative alla Java VM di Sun), ho scritto
in lista freenet-dev per avere una risposta "ufficiale".

In sintesi la risposta e': "Fred 0.7 should work on Kaffe"

Incomincia a tornarmi il sorriso :)

Il fatto che non sia mai stato un obiettivo primario quello di
supportare Kaffe e' una cosa che NON ho mai capito.

Speriamo bene quindi.

P.S.: il footprint delle applicazioni java eseguite con kaffe l'ho
trovato sempre molto inferiore che con JRE di Sun (quando
funzionavano). Che si riesca prima o poi a farsi bastare 128Mb e una
pbox III come nodo freenet?

Well the point IIRC was that we don't need NIO in Freenet 0.7. That post
was asking if we should use NIO anyway for a few non-critical things (the 
proposed optional TCP transport, fproxy, FCP), in which case we might need
to debug classpath NIO. Fred 0.7 should work on Kaffe now as far as I know
but I haven't tried it.
