Dear all,
just to update you all about progresses with the Thunderbird extension:
- - The decode of messages as been implemented. In order to properly show
the decoded message I had to use a function from EnigMail. I hope making
a similar one so that EnigMail will not be a requirement will not be a
big deal though.
- - The output has been improved, making the user able to see mixminion
output immediately after it has been run and without watching at logs.
- - A few bug fixes and refinements.
- - Unfortunately I couldn't have any try to the TOR stuff yet, sorry.
I made also a lot of tests involving sending forward and reply messages
together with attached surbs. I noticed that I have not been able to
correctly receive replies with attached surbs. In fact, their content is
truncated (it contains "[...]" instead of a consistent part of the
message) and there is no way to decode it and I get
[ERROR] Corrupted data: value seems to be truncated by a
Mixminion/Mixmaster gateway
as error text.
Does anyone have any idea about what may be behind this behavior? Maybe
a bug?
On the web I found this post
http://www.webservertalk.com/archive302-2005-6-1074098.html
and it seems I have been quite unlucky, as the guy lost just 2 out of 15
messages.
I was also wondering about how to generate surbs for multiple message
recipients.
At the moment, if the user specifies more than one recipient, the ui
attaches a different surb for each recipient. This seems to me a sound
and safe choice, but I am not 100% sure it is really needed.
The surb does not contain the whole reply path but just a part of it,
so, if the same surb is given to all the recipients, all the replies
paths will share just a sub-path. Even if their paths are still
distinct, may it be a vulnerability? I guess it is if the common
sub-path contains a compromised node.
As usual, any feedback is more than welcome.
Have a nice day,
bye
Lorenzo
