Hi all,
The Tor Project is seeking a volunteer Site Editor who will be
responsible for updating content on its website, torproject.org. The
Site Editor should be familiar with Tor, online anonymity and privacy,
and understand the existing Tor website (http://tor.eff.org) content at
some level.
The volunteer Site Editor would be responsible for delivering two phases
of the Tor Project website:
Phase one: Tell people we're a nonprofit, and answer related questions.
We probably want some pages listing our directors and other nonprofity
stuff. Also, go through the rest of the pages and look for now-wrong
statements.
Phase two: Pick a clearer message and fix up all our pages to give
people our message better. One of the goals here is to give potential
donors browsing our site information about how we could put their money
to good use. Another goal is to give journalists a head start on what we
want them to know. A third goal is to teach our users about Tor and
anonymity in a more friendly way.
Essential Job Functions:
* Edit content generated by other staff members, or users;
* Writing all text in a consistent voice;
* Updating documentation or text to be more user friendly;
* Ability to work with SVN, XML, and existing web site source.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Experience writing about or editing technology topics preferred;
* Understanding of concepts of Tor and a willingness and ability to
learn more about these topics;
* Strong writing, editing and verbal skills;
* Ability to manage resources;
* Strong computer/Web skills,
* Tenacity to find information and get answers to open questions from
existing Tor volunteers;
* Intellectual curiosity, innovation, high standards, adherence to
deadlines, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment with little
direct supervision.
Interested folks should contact Andrew Lewman (andrew at torproject.org)
directly.
