News2Remail is a NNTP to Mixmaster remailer gateway. It functions as a
NNTP server that you post to from your newsreader and it pipes the post
directly to Mixmaster.
What this means is that you can read and reply on usenet in a regular
news reader while using the Mixmaster remailers, all completely
transparent to you.
For example, you can read from readfreenews and when you reply,
especially considering rfn does not allow posting, you reply via the
remailers. Or you can read from your favorite NSP and reply via the
remailers. You can selectively post to either remailers or your NSP.
You never have to leave your newsreader. There is no copy and paste
involved and no switching to a different application. You read and
reply as usual. You can even set custom chains and mail2news gateways
on the fly by adding headers (or in the first lines of your post if you
cannot set headers) (see web page below for details).
You only need a news reader that is capable of reading from one news
server and posting to a different one. There are many that can do this
and they are many of the most popular (it works very well with XNews.
Some have reported Thunderbird and Agent as well, but XNews is well
tested.).
We will be releasing a personal version to run on your own machine.
Until then we are running a public gateway with guest access. Those who
are not Cotse subscribers may use a login and password of guest in your
newsreader for the news2remail gateway (this does not work for a web
login, don't bother trying). Subscribers should use your Cotse login
and pass because it gives you access to custom settings you can make to
news2remail via the Remailers link in the webmail.
Details are here:
https://www.cotse.net/news2remail.html
Public access may be removed at any time. Remember that the gateway is
in beta, so only use it casually. The gateway may also be unavailable
at any given time unannounced as tweaks are made or bugs are found and
fixed (If it's down, just try again later. I'd like to think it's really
solid and bug free, but reality usually dictates otherwise. But it has
had decent testing both public and private.) It also contains flood
control code, if you post too much too quickly you will end up
automatically banned.
We are not logging nor monitoring any users or posts sent through this,
but we are watching the gateway in general for errors, performance, and
such.
