[Since I didn't see this listed in the PWR post, here 'tis]

In today's NY Times, an article by John Markoff (one of the better
mainsteam writers on technology IMO) discusses Cleversafe, an open source
encrypted, distributed data storage system.  The article doesn't give many
technical details, but does give the general idea:

The website for Cleversafe can be found, amazingly enough, at
http://www.cleversafe.org/. It does seem like a potentially useful step
beyond encrypted file systems on removable media for large-scale data
storage and recovery of sensitive material, but I will have to look at it
more closely.
