The e-privacy congress is, since 2002, the leading event about privacy, surveillance & civil digital rights.
Held twice a year, it mixes legal, technological & civil rights arguments, have from 15 to 25 speaker each edition (often including Italian Privacy Ombudsman representative), for each edition it change city being hosted/invited by a different entity.
A lot of privacy-topic that develop in the national digital rights agenda are usually discussed and elaborated within the e-privacy speakers and attendees community.

It has been always organized by the “Winston Smith Project”, an anonymous collective that’s partially re-united within the Hermes Center NGO, now EDRi Observer.
Next edition will be held in Venice, in the historical location of the Criminal Court Hall; the main path will be about Cloud, and will be held in the unconventional form of a “Cloud Trial”.
Since the beginning e-privacy is a self-funded, no-commercial-sponsor event, and indispensable costs are paid directly by organizers and speakers, being the participation free for all.
In the past and till 2012, e-privacy hosted eight editions of the italian Big Brother Awards, giving up then for lack of resources.
We plan for a new BBA, also with contribution from CILD (Italian sort of ACLU with which we do a lot of privacy activism challenging the government) for the next e-privacy in Q2/2018.
With the goal to improve the communication and organization of the now bi-yearly e-privacy event, we are applying to cover some basic organizational expenses.
